Nigerian cleric Pastor Julius Ekweozor sparked intense online reactions on July 23, 2026. He warned men to avoid romantic ties with widows at all costs. The pastor claimed these women remain spiritually married to their dead husbands.

The sermon quickly went viral across social media platforms. Observers expressed shock at his strict traditional views on marriage and death.

Spiritual attacks and hidden dangers

Ekweozor stated that a deceased husband immediately takes control of the marriage from the spirit realm. He warned that men who offer financial help will face severe consequences if they sleep with the widow.

”No matter how nice a widow is, don’t sleep with her. There is no single widow on the earth. Every widow is married. When you take advantage of her, her husband will come after you. Every widow is married to a spirit.” Ekweozor declared during his sermon.

”The moment the husband of that widow drops dead, the spirit takes over the marriage.” The cleric noted.

”as soon as he sleeps with her, that spirit will attack.” He added.

The pastor insisted that unseen forces constantly monitor surviving wives. This advice mirrors a recent debate where Pastor Okonkwo warned that income gaps can strain modern marriages.

Rituals and lost blessings

The cleric also discussed the strict laws governing young widows. He noted that many women wish to remarry after their loss. However, he claimed they must perform specific rituals first.

”When a man dies and the widow is young, and she wants to remarry, there are laws they keep, there are certain rituals they do. If that ritual is not done, what happened to the other man will happen to him. The spirit will kill him.” The pastor stated.

”To separate her from the spirit that is married to her.” He explained about the rites.

Human rights groups frequently criticize traditional widowhood practices across Nigeria because they degrade women. Meanwhile, other public figures like rapper Erigga advise men to avoid having kids with multiple women.

Ekweozor urged young men to flee from any widow showing romantic interest. He claimed these specific relationships carry a dark curse. The pastor argued that such unions destroy a man’s future and success.

”So if a widow is liking you, whether young or old, be running. Go and check in your village. All the young men that widows harbored are still useless today.” Ekweozor warned his male listeners.

”Whatever thing that gives that man boost, the spirit of that widow will take it.” He claimed confidently.

”Every time a man checks out, a spirit takes over the wife. There is no single widow, even in church, on the streets, in the tradition, anywhere. Every widow is married to a spirit.” The pastor concluded.
