Anambra authorities announce the safe return of Chief Joseph Ezeokafor following his recent abduction
Chief Joseph Ezeokafor, the billionaire father of Nigerian socialite Jowizaza, has finally regained his freedom alongside a Reverend Sister. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed their safe return after armed men took them hostage in Awka and demanded a massive ransom.
Kidnappers have released the prominent Anambra businessman after holding him captive for several days. His safe return brings immense relief to his family and the local community.
The crisis began on August 4, 2026, when armed criminals intercepted him. Ezeokafor had just left his Awka home to attend a local prayer ground. The attackers also seized a Reverend Sister during the early morning ambush.
Ransom demands and family blame
Tensions rose sharply during the hostage crisis. The captors quickly escalated their threats and demanded a staggering ₦1.5 billion ransom to free the businessman.
The abduction also sparked a fierce dispute within the Ezeokafor family. His daughter publicly criticised the situation and blamed her brother’s fake wealth for attracting the dangerous criminals. She claimed the kidnappers targeted their father because of false social media displays.
Police launch aggressive manhunt
Authorities are now working hard to track down the fleeing suspects. The police want to uncover exactly how the victims secured their release.
Command spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the ongoing security efforts. He noted that detectives are gathering crucial details to identify the armed gang. The investigation involves multiple agencies including the DSS and the military.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama praised the safe return of the captives. He immediately ordered a massive intelligence operation to catch the culprits.
