Olga Diyachenko has defended his husband John Obi Mikel, after he had his two-year contract at Trabzonspor was terminated by mutual consent.
The former Chelsea star recently took to his Instagram page to criticize the Turkish Super Lig’s decision to carry on with playing matches despite the coronavirus outbreak, after he refused to play
Shortly after his contract was terminated, he came under attack from trolls, prompting his wife to speak up in his defense.
Instagram post: Mikel called for the cancellation of the league, saying “there is more to life than football“.
“I do not feel comfortable and don’t want to play football in this situation. Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones in this critical time, season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times“.
Following the termination which was through mutual consent, Mikel will not be paid any compensation as he agreed to give up all forward-looking rights and receivables.
The midfielder’s contract would have run until 2021 had he stayed on at Trabzonspor.
