On July 27, 2026, prominent activist Aisha Yesufu confronted Nigerian media professionals over their interview tactics. She directed her anger at Channels Television host Seun Okinbaloye following his recent chat with Peter Obi.
Yesufu expressed deep frustration with the constant interrogation of the opposition candidate. She argued that reporters ignore other politicians while demanding too much from Obi alone. This unequal treatment sparked her public outburst.
”I don’t think there’s any question that Seun asked Peter Obi that has not already been asked. It’s the same conversation again and again.” Yesufu stated in her viral response.
Unequal Media Pressure
The activist stressed that journalists single out Obi for complex policy questions. She noted that other political figures rarely face the same demanding questions about national issues.
”More pressure is being put on Peter Obi. ‘What do you want to do with insecurity? What do you want to do with this?’ There are other candidates, nothing is being said about them.” She noted during her critical review.
Yesufu then shifted her focus directly to President Bola Tinubu. She claimed the current leader actively avoids difficult press engagements. According to her, the media enables this silence by not demanding transparency.
”Nobody is asking him tough questions. He’s not in front of the camera. Yet the one person who cares, who has been out there speaking to the people, is the one that more and more is needed from him.” The activist declared passionately.
Clarifying The Commissioners Comment
Beyond media bias, Yesufu addressed a recent dispute regarding Obi’s political statements. Critics recently targeted Obi over his mention of Muslim commissioners.
She clarified that Obi meant Commissioners of Police rather than state cabinet members. She urged citizens to focus on fixing the nation instead of twisting words. Yesufu warned that poor political choices will eventually harm everyone.
”I don’t think there’s anything about Peter Obi that you need to know that you’ve not heard already.” She added to defend the candidate.
She ended her statement with a sharp warning about national self-sabotage. Yesufu stated that Nigeria possesses the capacity to deal with everybody if voters fail to act wisely.
