Key Points:
- Rivers police say the viral clip hides a rival clash. They say youths beat an officer and filmed it for the web.
- SP Grace Iringe shares times, names, and cash sums. She says a love row, not drugs, sparked the street scene.
- The Command warns against jungle justice in Nkpolu. It says it will charge all who took part in the assault.
Crowds shared a tense video from Nkpolu, Rivers. In it, a man in plain wear sits on the road. Voices rise as onlookers film with their phones. Online posts then claim a “drug bust.”

Rivers State Police now give a new side. The spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe, speaks for the Command. She says the clip does not show a drug raid. She says a grudge led to a mob attack.
Police give new story on the viral clip
Iringe names the officer as Inspector Joshua Nyian. He works with Woji Division in Port Harcourt. She says he filed a case on 24 August 2025. The time, she notes, was about 1:40 p.m.
At the time of the clash, he left a night shift. He stopped at Nkpolu to see his woman friend. She is pregnant for him, the police say. Then, a crowd closed in and grabbed him.
Officer reports assault and theft in Nkpolu
The report lists what he told the desk. “At about 10:20 a.m., a group beat me,” he said. He names the Nkpolu Youth President and the Chairman. He adds that about twenty youths joined the fray.
They, he says, dragged him to the main road. They took his police ID card and phone. The group filmed him as the scene grew loud. They also took ₦78,000 in cash from him.
Nyian also states a cause for the clash. He says the youth head made moves on his partner. He thinks that push led to the attack. The police gave him a medical form for care.
Command vows probe and warns against street justice
Iringe says the officer wrote the statement by choice. She adds that the team seeks the youth head to talk. Others seen in the clip should come with proof. “We will serve justice,” she assures the public.
The Command also calls on local chiefs to act. It urges them to guide their youths at once. “Do not take laws into your hands,” it says. It says the probe will track all who took part.
Meanwhile, reports from the same area sparked strong views. Some users praise the fight on hard drugs. Others say mobs can harm the wrong person. For context on civic crackdowns, read our earlier Nkpolu anti-drug story on ValidUpdates.
