• A Catholic priest ordered that Church doors be closed so as to force people to donate money to church.
• Chimamanda has shared her side of story on why she walked out of the church after the priest verbally abused her for not offering money during her mom’s funeral mass.
Nigerian renowned writer and author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has called out a Catholic priest who abused her during her mom’s funeral mass in her hometown Abba, Anambra State.
Mrs Adichie, who broke the silence in front of congregation and members of Abba community in a church said that it was so bad for a priest to force people to donate to the church.
She insists that making church donations shouldn’t be a mandatory exercise but a voluntary act which can be done if the person is completely ready and willing.
Chimamanda hates the fact that the priest during her mom’s funeral mass ordered that the church doors be locked so no one will be exempted from donating money.
As absurd as this looks, she advised that it’s not always mandatory to make people do what they feel like not doing. And by forcing them, you’re inflicting anger in them. This was exactly what made her walk out of the church that day.
But she decided to come back to explain to Abba community why she did what she did.
