The world’s billionaire couple, Bill and Melinda Gates have announced they’re splitting from each other after 27 years as husband and wife.
This sad but yet decisive update was made available by the couple via their social media pages, Twitter on Monday, May 3, 2021 where they each posted a statement explaining their plans.
According to them, the decision came after a great deal of thought and a lot of work on their relationship, adding that within this 27 years together, they have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
In as much as they’re not longer going to grow together as a couple in this next phase of their lives, they noted that they will continue to work together at their foundation.
They also ask that people all round the world give their family space and privacy as they begin to navigate this new live.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the statement begins.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.
“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
Bill and Melinda got married in 1994 on the Hawaiian island of Lanai after they first met in the 1980s when Melinda joined Bill’s Microsoft firm. The marriage produced three kids, two girls Jennifer Katharine Gates, Phoebe Adele Gates and a boy, Rory John Gates.
Bill Gates is the fourth wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes, and is worth $124bn (£89bn) as at April 2021.
