Nigerian online critic VeryDarkMan (Martins Vincent Otse) has claimed that he triggered the police move that led to activist Harrison Gwamnishu’s arrest in Benin, Edo State.

In a fresh Instagram video, he says he phoned officers on Tuesday night after confirming details linked to the ongoing ransom case.
He adds that Harrison was already under scrutiny before the arrest. He points viewers back to an earlier Edo ransom probe report and says fresh findings forced him to act. For him, calling the police was the only way to stop more damage.
VDM explains that he first asked officers to keep the arrest low-key. He says he did not plan to post about the case or take a victory lap online. His goal, he claims, was to help the police gather facts while families linked to the ransom saga sought answers.
VDM says videos forced him to speak
Things changed, he alleges, when new clips about the arrest began to trend. Harrison shared his own side of the story on social media. Other users also dropped short videos and long threads about the same case.
VDM says these posts tried to twist events. In his view, the activist’s comments painted him as a victim of envy and hate. He accuses Harrison of “gaslighting” fans and trying to sway public feeling with half-truths.
He further claims there is a video of Harrison returning money linked to the same ransom deal. He says the clip shows funds being handed back and calls it a key piece of proof. He also reveals that a truck tied to the issue is now parked at a police station in Edo State.
Rivalry or justice? VDM defends his motive
Some viewers have suggested that VDM is targeting Harrison out of rivalry. Others say both men chase attention with bold online cases. The critic strongly rejects that reading and says he does not see himself as an “activist” at all.
Instead, he insists that his page exists only to check claims and share hard facts. He tells fans that he will not stay quiet when he believes the public is being misled. For him, the online space should fear proof more than clout.
VDM also reminds followers that this is not his first tense encounter around Edo cases. He recalls his past kidnap rescue clips and points fans to a previous Edo kidnap chase story. He says that history is why he treats new kidnap and ransom claims with extra care.
What happens when Harrison leaves custody
Looking ahead, VDM says the next steps rest with Harrison. He believes the detained activist should give what he calls a “clear and honest” account once he regains his freedom. Anything less, he warns, will push him to share more of his own evidence.
He hints that he still holds back some details out of respect for police work. At the same time, he promises that he will not hide facts if he feels the public is being played. His message to fans is simple: wait for the full story and judge by proof, not by big names.
For now, both men remain at the centre of a heated online debate. Supporters of each side trade comments under VDM’s video and older clips about the Edo ransom case. Many watchers say they now expect police to brief the public soon and explain where the probe stands.
Whatever the next update brings, VDM appears set on one thing. He wants his followers to know that the phone call which led to Harrison’s arrest started from his end. He also wants them to believe that the call came from duty, not hate.
