Veteran Nollywood actor Victor Osuagwu has opened up about the fast-paced nature of modern Gen Z film sets. Speaking on August 26, 2026, he exposed the stark contrast between the rushed digital era and the rigorous month-long rehearsals of the old analog days.
Veteran actor Victor Osuagwu has shed light on the changing culture of Nollywood film sets. The comedy icon compared the rigorous analog days to the modern digital rush. He stressed that current productions move too fast.
The industry has seen massive technological growth over the years. However, Osuagwu noted that this tech boom has severely cut down actor rehearsal times.
The analog days of rigor
Osuagwu explained that old Nollywood productions were never hasty. Filmmakers dedicated massive time to proper preparation.
”Nollywood was not in a haste to produce that period of time, things were done properly, there was a good preparation for any shoot to start,” Osuagwu stated.
Actors went through multiple audition stages to secure their roles. The slow pace allowed them to fully grasp their characters before stepping on set. Intense rehearsals took anywhere from three weeks to two months before shooting started.
The Gen Z digital rush
The current era operates on a drastically different timeline. Osuagwu described the Gen Z production phase as extremely fast.
”The Jay-Z period is very, very fast unlike us, they very, very fast, and if you slow down they will swallow you,” the actor warned.
Modern actors no longer get months to practice and internalize their lines. They arrive on set and quickly read their parts. The stars now rely heavily on the director and advanced editing technology to succeed.
Technological leaps
The veteran actor did acknowledge the huge equipment upgrades. He noted the massive shift from old analog cameras to premium digital systems.
”During my days we were using Umatic, we were using Sony and all the rest of them. Right now they’re using RED, using Blackmagic, a lot of other stuffs to create good pictures,” he explained.
This modern gear captures high-quality visuals instantly. Despite the lost rehearsal time, Osuagwu agreed that these tools push Nollywood forward. He urged older actors to collaborate with the new generation to survive.
