West Coast legend Kurupt detailed how Eminem and Dr. Dre supported his journey to sobriety
West Coast emcee Kurupt recently revealed that Eminem and Dr. Dre helped him overcome his struggles with alcohol addiction. During an interview on Sway In The Morning, Kurupt confirmed that Eminem fully paid for his secret rehab stay while Dr. Dre provided vital emotional support.

Fans of classic hip-hop are praising a rare moment of true brotherhood. On August 8, 2026, a touching interview clip spread across social media. West Coast rap legend Kurupt opened up about his private battle with addiction.
He explained how two major music icons stepped in to help him. The former Tha Dogg Pound member credited Eminem and Dr. Dre for his sobriety.
The crucial phone call
Speaking on Sway In The Morning, Kurupt detailed the first steps. He explained that Dr. Dre reached out first during his darkest days. The legendary producer offered needed advice and understanding.
”It was Dr. Dre that called in. Literally. Was just giving his support and, you know, just letting me know that, you know, we all go through these things. He was just, you know, giving me that game,” the rapper explained.
Eminem soon joined the effort to get him safe medical care. The Detroit rapper recently celebrated his own major eighteen-year sobriety milestone.
Funding the rehab stay
Medical treatment for addiction often carries a huge cost. Eminem decided to remove that money issue completely. He offered to place Kurupt in a private clinic away from the public eye.
”And it was Em who came to the table, like, ‘I’m gonna put Kurupt with my folks and put some money into getting him into like a, uh, a rehab situation to where, you know, he can sit it down and enjoy himself and be out the way. Nobody’ll know he’s there,'” Kurupt recalled.
The financial support came with a heartfelt message of love. Dr. Dre acted as the middleman for the kind offer.
”You know, these things cost bread. So Em put the cheese up for it. Said, ‘Tell Kurupt I love him.’ Dr. Dre relayed the message, and then he put me with Em’s folks. So, you know, that was, that was real special to me,” he added.
A bond beyond music
Kurupt remained deeply touched by the gesture from his peers. He noted that the help arrived quickly when he needed it most. The event shows a strong support system within the hip-hop community.
”Appreciate both of them so much. And it’s like damn, you know, he just came out the blue from, from nowhere like, ‘Okay, Kurupt going through that? Bam,'” the star concluded.
