The president claimed he wanted to help the press boost their ratings. He teased the crowd before making his big reveal.
“To show just how much I care about the press and I want to save your ratings, I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States,” Trump quipped.
He then pulled out a red Trump 2028 cap. He placed the bright hat on his head. The US Constitution strictly limits a president to two terms.
First dinner appearance
This dinner marked his first time attending the gathering. He skipped the event entirely during his past political runs.
Organizers originally planned the event for April. They suspended it after an alleged assassination attempt on him. Trump spent much of his speech attacking the press.
He also took playful jabs at the attending reporters. He mocked their fashion choices for the night.
“I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather die than look 20 pounds heavier,” the president joked.
