A former adult film star has officially entered the Colombian political arena. Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz won a Senate seat representing the Norte de Santander region.
Ortiz gained fame under the stage name Amaranta Hank. She worked in the adult industry from 2017 until 2019. The former journalist now plans to fight for workers in her previous profession.
Championing creator rights
The new senator focuses heavily on social security and legal protections. She believes adult content creators need strong safeguards against greedy agencies.
“These women have been unprotected by the state because, due to misinformation, prejudice and double standards, no one has declared to regulate it,” she said in a campaign video.
Rivals heavily criticize Ortiz for her past career choices. Many opponents argue that former adult stars have no place in government. The politician quickly dismissed these complaints during her public statements.
Fighting political prejudice
“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she said.
She noted that Italian lawmaker Ilona Staller made a similar transition decades ago. Staller hosted a famous radio show before entering parliament. Ortiz hopes to bring this same level of representation to Bogotá.
“My experience allowed me to understand inequality, the struggle for freedom and the popular economy, arguments that I now promise to bring directly into legislative debate. The problem is that society consumes adult films but denies us the possibility of speaking in spaces of power,” she promised.
Supporters hope her victory will force a broader conversation about labor rights. The Historic Pact party will begin legislative sessions later this month.
