Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III has begun a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew. The palace said the decision follows sustained concern over his association with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In the statement released on Thursday, 30 October 2025, the palace added that “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” marking the clearest public downgrade of the Duke of York so far. The move comes two weeks after officials first signalled tighter curbs on his public status.Burna Boy buys his male bestie a Lamborghini
What the palace said
According to the statement, Andrew’s lease on Royal Lodge in Windsor had “to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.” Officials said a formal notice has now been served for him to surrender that lease.
The palace further disclosed that the 65-year-old will “move to alternative private accommodation,” understood to be on the family’s Sandringham estate. It stressed that these censures are “deemed necessary,” even though Andrew “continues to deny the allegations against him.”
Victims at the centre
Buckingham Palace used the closing part of the statement to shift focus to those affected by abuse. “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” it said.
This line signals that the King and Queen want to separate the institution from any past, current or future legal claims linked to Andrew’s private conduct.
It also reflects the palace’s view that Andrew’s continued denial does not stop the Crown from taking internal action. Diddy arrives at Fort Dix to serve sentence
Two weeks ago, Andrew himself said “the continued accusations about me” were distracting from the work of the royal family. He still insists, “I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
