Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has donated ₦2 million to support the ongoing fight for justice for the late Ochanya Ogbanje, a 13-year-old who died in 2018 after suffering sexual abuse.

The young girl was reportedly assaulted by her cousin and his father while living with them. Her case resurfaced recently when activists reopened the campaign and launched a GoFundMe drive to fund legal efforts. Other celebrities have also joined the advocacy as Nigerians demand accountability for gender-based violence.
In an emotional Instagram post, Baci expressed grief over Ochanya’s experience and highlighted how many victims continue to live with trauma. She said the donation symbolised more than money—it was a call for collective action to protect survivors.

According to the chef, honouring Ochanya’s memory requires more than online sympathy. “This isn’t about social media trends or relevance,” Baci wrote. “Helping this young girl get justice gives strength to others who have suffered similar pain but are still here trying to heal.”
She stressed that true change begins with individuals taking real steps to support victims and fund justice efforts. The renewed attention around Ochanya’s case has reignited public discussion about sexual abuse laws and victim protection in Nigeria.
Advocates say Baci’s support will help pay legal fees and counselling for survivors linked to the campaign. Earlier this month, Omoni Oboli also urged public donations for women-focused charities, signalling a broader wave of celebrity involvement in gender advocacy
