Key points:
- EFCC drags a 26-year-old to court in Enugu. He faces two counts tied to a crypto case.
- The man pleads “not guilty” as hearing opens. Defence asks for time to file a bail plea.
- Prosecutors cite FBI tips and coin trail to Binance. Papers also mention a past Coinbase breach.
A young man faced a judge in Enugu today. The EFCC named him Godslove Munachiso Obiwuru, aged twenty-six. The team took him to the Federal High Court. Justice M. T. Segun-Bello sat on the bench.

Prosecutors filed two counts on money issues. They tied the case to a crypto scheme. The man said “not guilty” to the counts. The court then set plans for the next steps.
FBI petition and crypto theft details
EFCC facts say the FBI filed a petition first. Agents linked him to an account take-over plan. They said he “auctioned” access in that scheme. They passed files that tracked coin flows as well.
Records add key dates and key sums too. In November 2022, a Coinbase wallet got hit. The owner was a U.S. citizen by the note. Coins worth about $307,394 left that vault.
The file lists 90,410.126 Gold Retriever Tokens. The short code for the coin reads GLDN. That figure came from the time of the breach. Agents say the sum left fast in blocks.
Later on, agents traced parts of the loot. They say some funds reached a Binance account. Papers say the wallet name links to Godslove. EFCC says its Enugu task force found more signs.
That work points to two other hurt users. The file says he “received crypto” from both. Each flow ties back to theft claims in the file. The trail helps the case, the note adds.
Count one spells out a small coin line. It says he kept 0.042 Ethereum worth about $50. The charge adds a Binance wallet string for trace. It reads 0xD62C9DA42BDe76a7Be113ABA225456C57320A569.
The charge cites the law by name as well. It notes Section 20(a) of the 2022 Act. The full law reads Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition. That Act guides how the court will weigh proof.
What happened in court today
EFCC counsel A. S. E. I. A. Y. Abdullahi spoke. He asked the court for a trial date. He also sought remand while the case runs. The judge took notes and set a short plan.
However, the defence raised a plea at once. Lawyer Abel Anih asked for a short date. He wants time to file a bail motion. The bench okayed an adjournment for the bail bid.
The court then ordered a hold for now. Officers took him back into safe hold. A fresh date will take the bail plea. The main trial date will follow that step.
Cases like this keep fans of law alert. EFCC has pushed wins in court this month. See our short note on an Edo court jailing ten internet fraudsters for fresh context. That piece shows how crypto crime gets swift hits.
The FBI has also raised cash for key tips. It put out a call on a long-run case. Read our note on an FBI reward for a Nigerian fugitive to see how leads help law moves. The hunt for fraud now spans many towns and sites.
For now, all claims stay as claims in court. Only the judge can weigh and rule here. We will track each step of this case. More facts will drop as the files come in.
