Nigerian rapper, Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, has stirred fresh debate about Lagos and the music industry.
The “Declan Rice” crooner said Lagos is the worst place for an up-and-coming artist to build a career.
“Lagos breeds selfishness,” says Odumodublvck
Taking to his X account, Odumodublvck warned that the city’s environment can change people.
He said Lagos makes young artists greedy and self-centred. According to him, living and growing there could turn someone into a “packaged beast.”
He wrote, “The worst place for a young artist to grow is Lagos. It’s the most selfish place to grow.
“You will become them; a greedy, selfish, and self-centred packaged beast.”
Why Abuja shaped him differently
The rapper credited his upbringing in Abuja for his success.
He believes growing up outside Lagos helped him keep his authenticity. This, he says, made it easier for him to “run through” the Nigerian music scene.
“That’s why it was easy to run through the industry as The Machine wey I be. I too real for una,” he added.
