Former Big Brother Naija star Chibuzor Iyele, known to fans as Hermes, has spoken about a tough chapter in his life.

In a recent chat on WithChude, Hermes opened up about losing contact with his mother when he was still a child. He revealed that her absence began after his father’s life took a downward turn.
Mother left after father lost job
Hermes shared that his father once worked with UNICEF. However, when he lost the job, life became very hard for the family. The situation got so bad that they had to move into an uncompleted building.
It was at that point, he said, that his mother decided not to follow them. “My mum didn’t want to come with us, so she left that night and didn’t return for seven years,” Hermes recalled.
He explained that the decision hurt him, but over time he found peace with it.
Father’s love shaped his view
The BBNaija star praised his father for stepping up in the hardest times. Despite the loss of income, his dad showed him and his siblings constant love and care.
“My dad raised us with love, and that’s why I still have love for my mum today,” Hermes said. He added that his parents’ marriage was not happy, and maybe his mum simply did what she felt was needed at the time.
Hermes noted that he has no anger towards her today. Instead, he credits his father’s patience and kindness for helping him keep an open heart.
His story has touched many fans, with some praising him for his maturity and forgiveness. Others have called his father a hero for raising the children in such hard conditions.
