Speed Darlington Goes to Court Over NAPTIP’s Post
Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has sued NAPTIP and wants ₦3 billion in damages.
He took the matter to the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 9, 2025. His lawyers said NAPTIP’s post that named him as “wanted” was false and has hurt his image badly.

Why NAPTIP Posted His Name as Wanted
On June 27, NAPTIP said on Instagram that Speed Darlington was wanted for serious crimes. They said he was linked to rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
They wrote:
“WANTED BY NAPTIP. Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, is wanted in connection with alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking. Anyone with credible information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NAPTIP immediately.”
The public took the post seriously, and many were shocked.
The Video That Started the Whole Issue
NAPTIP said they made the post after the singer didn’t answer their call for questions. He had posted a video on Instagram, saying he had sex with a young girl in a hotel.
This video got the attention of Lagos State’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). DSVA then sent the case to NAPTIP for full investigation.
The singer later said the video was just a joke. But NAPTIP still asked him to come to their Abuja office for questions.
Singer Says It Was a Joke to Gain Attention
Speed Darlington said he was only joking in the video. “Musicians need drama to stay popular,” he explained.
He said the statement in the video was to get attention for his music. He also said sorry to anyone who felt bad about it.
Still, he believes NAPTIP’s action was too harsh and put him in danger. In his lawsuit, he asked the court to stop NAPTIP from ever using the post again.
He also wants the court to make NAPTIP remove the June 27 post and never talk about it again.
