Nicki Minaj comes for SZA after cryptic tweet, but it wasn’t about her

Key Points:

  • Nicki Minaj lashes out at SZA over a misunderstood social media post.
  • SZA, currently touring Europe, insists her message had no link to Nicki.
  • SZA’s manager’s “Black Barbies” post also taken out of context by fans.

Nicki Minaj Mistakenly Targets SZA Over Tweet

American rapper Nicki Minaj sparked drama online after firing shots at singer SZA over a tweet she misunderstood.

SZA had taken to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to post, “Mercury retrograde .. don’t take the bait lol silly goose.” But Nicki quickly assumed the message was directed at her.

Nicki was already in the middle of dragging Roc Nation boss Desiree Perez, and believed SZA’s post was part of the shade. Without waiting for clarity, Nicki tore into SZA.

Nicki Compares SZA’s Voice to a Crying Dog

Nicki did not hold back. She mocked SZA’s voice, saying she sounded like a “dead dog” and likened her singing to someone “crying after a bee sting.”

The harsh attack echoed Nicki’s recent online clash with Jay-Z.

However, this time, SZA was left completely confused.

SZA Was in Paris — Not Even Aware of the Drama

The “Kill Bill” star had just wrapped her joint “GNX” tour stop with Kendrick Lamar at Paris La Défense Arena.

She clapped back gently, saying her tweet had “nothing to do with any drama” and that she was simply unloading her thoughts after performing.

SZA also made it clear she wasn’t even in America, stressing the time zone difference between her post and the situation brewing back home.

“Black Barbies” Was Also Not About Nicki

The confusion grew when SZA’s manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, posted about Black Barbies.

Some fans assumed he was referring to Nicki’s 2016 song of the same name. But Punch later revealed the post was about a new track by Lyric Michelle — a member of his Room Full Of Mirrors group.

It had absolutely nothing to do with Nicki.

Nicki Still Silent After the Clarifications

Even after SZA and Punch cleared the air, Nicki has yet to respond or back down.

Some fans believe Nicki is too focused on defending Desiree Perez and her daughter, Demoree Hadley, to care about misunderstandings.

For now, it seems this online feud may fizzle out as quickly as it started — unless Nicki decides otherwise.
