Pregnancy Made Me Cry in the Studio – Tiwa Savage
Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shared a touching story about how pregnancy affected her music.
She revealed this during a chat on Afrobeats Intelligence. Tiwa talked about how hard it was to record her R.E.D album while carrying a baby.
“I was pregnant when I recorded R.E.D. I would cry in the studio with my big belly,” she said. “It was very hard.”

Voice Range Affected Her Music
Tiwa said pregnancy changed how her voice worked. She could no longer sing high notes like before.
Because of this, she had to change the key of some songs. This helped her sing them more easily during the recording.
She didn’t want to stop, so she kept going even when it was tough.
Mavin Records Gave Her Full Support
At the time, Tiwa was signed to Mavin Records. She said she was the first woman in the label to get pregnant.
She remembered how Don Jazzy and the team supported her. “When they saw I was tired, Jazzy would tell them to bring me bread and eggs,” she laughed.
The team made sure she felt okay and helped her finish her work on the album.

From Mavin to Universal
Tiwa Savage joined Mavin Records in 2012. She left the label in 2019 to sign with Universal Music Group.
Even though she’s moved on, she still remembers how kind and helpful the Mavin team was during that tough time.
