This generous gesture underscores his gratitude towards the church for its support during a challenging time in his childhood.
Rema’s contribution was announced during his visit to Edo State, where he participated in several events, including the celebration of Edo@33.
He performed at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming 6,000-capacity Edo Dome and hosted a musical concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, all at the invitation of the state government.
A Heartfelt Tribute to the Church’s Support
The singer made this significant donation to the Edo Regional Headquarters of the church, which is situated on Erediauwa Street off Ekenwa Road.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service, Rema reflected on the role the church played in his family’s life following the tragic loss of his father when he was just eight years old.
He expressed deep appreciation for how the church, particularly through the efforts of Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, helped his family during their time of need.
“I am not here to give myself any accolades or glory but to give God all the glory,” Rema stated. “I felt it was important to give back to the church that has embraced me, prayed for me, and kept me spiritually grounded.”
During the darkest days after losing his father, he recalled the sense of despair and isolation his family faced. Rema shared a touching memory of how the church took immediate action to support them.
“They opened a shop for my mum, which she managed to provide for us during a very difficult time.”
As a token of his gratitude, Rema pledged to allocate the N150 million donation strategically.
He committed N40 million to support the church’s infrastructure development and N20 million towards the Rhapsody of Realities publication.
The artist also expressed a heartfelt sentiment towards the church’s youth, pledging N25 million specifically for the teen church.
In an inspiring act of compassion, Rema announced an additional N20 million donation aimed at assisting widows in attendance at the service. “If there are any widows here today, I am pledging N20 million to support them,” he added.
Through this remarkable act of giving, Rema not only reinforces his commitment to his roots but also highlights the importance of community support and charity.
His contributions will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on both the church and the wider community in Edo State.
