Recognition of Cultural Heritage
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State recently honoured renowned folklore musician Mike Ejeagha during a visit to his residence.
The visit coincided with the commissioning of four newly constructed roads in the Abakpa Nike area, showcasing the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
In recognition of Ejeagha’s significant contributions to the cultural heritage of the state, the Governor announced the renaming of Obinagu Road to Mike Ejeagha Road.
This road, which leads directly to the musician’s home, was reconstructed earlier this year.
“Enugu is a state rich in history, talent, and culture. It is our duty to honour and celebrate those who have shaped our identity,” stated Governor Mbah during the ceremony.
The Governor pledged that the state government will take full responsibility for Ejeagha’s wellbeing, affirming the importance of preserving the legacies of local legends.
Infrastructure Developments on the Horizon
During the event, Governor Mbah provided reassurances to the residents of Abakpa and Enugu State regarding ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects.
“This is just the beginning,” he reiterated, referencing recent contracts awarded for the construction of 141 new roads and 20 rural roads throughout the state, including those in Abakpa.

The Governor highlighted the forthcoming dualisation of Penocks Junction on the Enugu-Onitsha Road, which will extend to Opi-Nsukka.
The contract for this significant project has already been awarded, with work set to begin shortly.
“Our commitment to transforming Enugu State is unwavering. We have many more roads and projects underway to enhance the lives of our people,” he added, emphasising the administration’s focus on improving transportation and connectivity in the region.
Mike Ejeagha, now in his 90s, recently captured public attention when one of his classic songs, “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” went viral.

Following a dance challenge initiated by popular Nigerian skit maker Brain Jotter, the song experienced a resurgence in popularity between July and August this year.
Brain Jotter performed a unique dance routine to the track, sparking a widespread social media challenge that engaged a broad audience.
In a generous show of support, Brain Jotter also visited Ejeagha and donated N2 million to him.
This act of kindness underscores the growing appreciation for the legendary musician and his influence on contemporary Nigerian culture.
As the Abakpa community and beyond celebrate both Ejeagha’s artistry and the Governor’s commitments, it is clear that the legacy of this living legend continues to inspire new generations.null
