Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York City.
However, his lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, insists that the hip-hop star is not suicidal. This measure, according to Agnifilo, is a standard protocol for “new, high-profile inmates” and not indicative of Diddy’s mental state.
Not Suicidal, but In Custody
Agnifilo spent six hours with Diddy at the federal lockup on Thursday and noted that the artist appeared strong, healthy, and confident about his legal battle.
“He is not at all suicidal,” Agnifilo reported. Instead, he described Diddy as being “focused on his defence” amid serious charges that include racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Diddy’s legal troubles escalated dramatically on Monday night when he was arrested in Manhattan following a federal grand jury indictment.
The charges against him include serious allegations of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, as well as transportation to engage in prostitution.
Since his arrest, he has remained in custody as his defence team works tirelessly to secure his release.
However, Diddy has faced significant hurdles in his attempts to gain bail. Two judges have denied his requests, siding with federal prosecutors who argue that he poses a danger to the community.
They allege that he has tampered with witnesses, raising serious concerns about his release.
Living Conditions in Notorious Jail Under Scrutiny
The Manhattan MDC is notorious for its poor living conditions, with reports of overcrowding and unsanitary environments for inmates.
Agnifilo has expressed concern for Diddy’s well-being at this facility. At the last bail hearing, he urged the court to consider transferring Diddy to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey, where conditions may be more humane. That request is currently under review.
As the legal battle continues, the eyes of both fans and critics remain on Diddy.
The outcome of his case could significantly affect his legacy, but for now, Diddy’s primary focus is on navigating the complexities of the legal system while maintaining his mental health, as his lawyer asserts he remains resolute and determined.
