Afrobeats Superstar Calls for Vigilance Among Voters

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has raised alarm about the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labelling it the “most dangerous institution” in Nigeria.

His comments came during the ongoing gubernatorial election in Edo State taking place today, Saturday, September 21, where concerns about transparency and fairness have become prominent.

In a series of passionate posts on his X account, Davido urged residents of Edo State to be vigilant.

He encouraged them to closely monitor their votes and the results at polling units, emphasising the importance of staying engaged throughout the electoral process.

“The most dangerous institution in Nigeria @inecnigeria,” he stated, highlighting his frustration with the electoral body’s credibility.

Calling for Transparency in the Electoral Process

Davido’s criticism didn’t stop there. He expressed doubt that INEC would deliver on its promise to transmit election results electronically.

“We already know that @inecnigeria will not transmit results electronically, so everyone should be ready to follow the vote/result from the polling unit up until the state collation centre,” he warned, urging voters to take charge of their democracy.

The singer’s call to action reflects a broader sentiment among many Nigerians who are eager for greater transparency in the electoral process.

He advised citizens to make their presence known at collation centres, especially as counting begins. “Winning is one thing. Being declared a winner is another thing!” he expressed, rallying his followers to stay vigilant once the polls closed.

Davido’s message culminated with a compelling reminder: “From 7pm make una go Dey mount collation center!! #EdoDecide2024.”

As the elections in Edo State unfold, Davido’s comments resonate with many who believe that active participation is vital in safeguarding their votes and ensuring that their voices are heard.

The ongoing discourse around INEC’s reliability continues to be a critical concern, not just for Edo residents but for voters across Nigeria as they navigate the electoral landscape.
