- – The controversy has sparked heated discussions on social media, with supporters backing Bobrisky while others question his account, highlighting the scrutiny public figures, especially in the LGBTQ community, often face.

In a whirlwind of accusations, popular crossdresser and influencer, Idris Okuneye—better known as Bobrisky—has taken to social media to deny claims of bribing officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The controversy ignited following the release of a voice recording by fellow influencer Martins Vincent Otse, or VeryDarkMan, which alleges that Bobrisky paid a substantial sum of N15 million to clear himself of money laundering charges.
Allegations and Counterclaims
The troubling claims emerged on Tuesday night, stirring up discussions across various social media platforms.
In the leaked audio, which is purportedly of Bobrisky, the crossdresser is heard admitting to bribing EFCC officials in an effort to have the money laundering charges against him dismissed.
However, Bobrisky has firmly rejected these assertions, labelling the recording as an elaborate hoax intended to tarnish his reputation.
Bobrisky proceeded to clarify that he has never avoided punishment for his actions. In April 2024, he was sentenced to six months in prison due to a conviction for naira mutilation.
The influencer claimed in the controversial recording that he had a deal arranged by his godfather allowing him to serve the sentence in a lodge rather than a traditional prison.
Nevertheless, Bobrisky maintains that these statements are untrue, insisting he completed his sentence in a correctional facility.
In a response posted on Instagram, Bobrisky stated, “My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira and that I was never in prison. I didn’t pay any EFCC money; it is a very big lie. I served my term in full and I came out. Discard any false information.”

This declaration seeks to counter the damage the accusations may cause to his public image.
Social Media Outcry
The online community has erupted in reaction to the allegations, with some supporting Bobrisky while others are sceptical of his account.
Fans and critics alike have taken to platforms such as Instagram and Twitter to voice their opinions, making the issue a hot topic of conversation.
As the story develops, many are left wondering about the implications these claims might have for Bobrisky’s career and personal life.
As it stands, the controversy highlights the intense scrutiny that public figures, particularly those in the LGBTQ community, often face.
Bobrisky’s passionate defence serves as a reminder of the battles many influencers fight against misinformation and the consequences of false accusations.
In a world where social media can escalate stories rapidly, both Bobrisky and his critics are now at the centre of a narrative that may have repercussions far beyond mere entertainment.
Whether the truth will eventually come to light remains to be seen, but for now, the crossdresser’s supporters rally behind him, while detractors continue to speculate about the truth behind the allegations.
