Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P from the duo PSquare, has publicly responded to claims made by his twin brother, Paul Okoye (aka Rude Boy), involving alleged actions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a recent interview, Paul alleged that Peter had instigated their and their elder brother Jude Okoye’s arrests by the EFCC. Peter has taken to Instagram to clarify the matter and set the record straight.
Background and Initial Claims
In an interview with City FM, Paul Okoye contended that Peter played a part in their arrest by the EFCC. The interview quickly went viral, igniting public interest and media scrutiny.
In response, Peter posted a detailed note on his Instagram page, offering a comprehensive background on their family dynamics and business affairs.
Peter began by explaining that their family brand had always been in the public eye, making their issues more susceptible to social media discourse.
He firmly denied ever having his twin brother Paul arrested. According to Peter, Paul was never detained by the EFCC at any point.
The Controversial Management Company
Mr. P further explained the management structure involving himself, Paul, and their elder brother Jude, through their company, Northside Entertainment.
He revealed that he found out about another company called Northside Music, which was suspiciously similar in name to their own. This prompted further investigation, only for Peter to discover that this company was linked to Jude and his wife, Ifeoma Okoye, with its listed address being Ifeoma’s family home.
Attempting to clarify the situation, Peter approached Paul multiple times to inquire if he knew anything about the mysterious company. Paul repeatedly denied any knowledge.
Peter then publicly challenged Paul or anyone else to produce any petition that implicated Paul directly, underscoring that his legal instructions specifically excluded Paul’s name, focusing solely on Jude and his wife, Ifeoma.
In his Instagram note, Peter expressed shock after watching Paul’s interview where Paul claimed to have been petitioned. Peter stressed that any EFCC action was directed towards Jude and not Paul.
Financial Misconduct Allegations
Elaborating on his discovery regarding Jude, Peter accused his elder brother of diverting massive sums of money—millions of dollars and hundreds of millions of naira—into the secret company, Northside Music.
He admitted that while Paul was angry with him for involving the EFCC, he had no choice because his attempts to resolve the issue privately with Paul and Jude yielded no results. Paul’s dismissive response, “Peter, go and do your worst,” further compelled Peter to take legal action.
Peter confirmed that during questioning by the EFCC, Jude admitted to transferring P-Square’s royalties to his personal accounts through bureau de change operations. Further scrutiny of Jude’s account revealed multiple transactions where Jude had split the money equally with Paul, excluding Peter.
Jude justified these transactions by claiming he was repaying a loan from Paul for a house sale in America. Following these revelations, Jude’s bank accounts were frozen, and he was detained until he met bail conditions.
Peter highlighted that Paul’s name was not included in any petition, stressing that Paul’s involvement was limited to being questioned, along with notable figures like Jason Njoku of Iroko TV and Amaju Pinnick, due to their transactional history with Jude’s secret company.
In summary, Peter’s detailed response aims to refute Paul’s accusations and shed light on the financial irregularities perpetrated by their elder brother, Jude—bringing to public attention the complex financial and familial dynamics at play within the Okoye family.
