In a recent development, rising Nigerian singer Boypee has refuted allegations that he and his fellow collaborators, Brown Joel and Hyce, removed the video of their hit song ‘Ogechi Remix’ featuring Davido due to a dispute over royalties.

The Controversy

The controversy emerged after the official video of ‘Ogechi Remix’ was taken down from YouTube. This song gained significant attention, notably as the wedding song for afrobeats star Davido and his wife, Chioma.

The video had been uploaded on Davido’s record label, DMW YouTube page, before its unexpected removal, attributed to copyright issues.

The situation became more complicated when an X (formerly known as Twitter) user with the handle @Johnnyescoba claimed that Boypee had suggested in an interview that the video was removed because Davido wanted to collect all the royalties from its views.

The post from @Johnnyescoba included a quote purportedly from Boypee, stating, “We had to take down the Ogechi Remix video cuz Davido wanted to take all the royalties.”

Boypee’s Response

Reacting to these claims, Boypee took to social media to clarify the situation. He strongly denied the allegations, expressing his disbelief and frustration over the false information.

In his post, Boypee wrote, “You and who talk that one? To what profit eh guy? Wetin you wan use my downfall do?” This statement clearly debunks the accusation that Davido’s supposed greed was the reason behind the video’s removal.

Boypee’s response highlights the ongoing challenges artists face regarding copyright and royalty disputes, underscoring the importance of clear communication and integrity within the music industry.

The removal of the ‘Ogechi Remix’ video has led to unfounded rumours, but Boypee has made it clear that the allegations against Davido are false.

As copyright issues continue to plague the music scene, this incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and potential misunderstandings that can arise.

Fans hope that the involved parties will resolve the copyright issues amicably, allowing them to enjoy the much-loved song without further complications.
