Cameroonian-Nigerian man Tembu Ebere Daniel has been shunned by Guinness World Records after trying to break the world record for the longest crying marathon.
This notice was disseminated by the Guinness world records via a comment on a post made on Instagram about the man’s crying marathon.
Through its verified Instagram page @guinnessworldrecords, it precautioned that GWR wouldn’t ever monitor a record for the longest marathon crying, adding that other ideas will be welcomed.
“Just so you know, we wouldn’t ever monitor a record for the longest marathon crying. But we will always welcome new ideas for records – check our website for details.”
Mr. Tembu had attempted to cry for seven days which is equivalent to 93 hours and 11 minutes in a quest to break the world record for the longest crying marathon by an individual.
However, in the process, Tembu confirmed that he temporarily went blind while trying to attempt on this record. He made this confirmation about his health issues to BBC. He said he experienced headaches, puffy eyes and a swollen face and went partially blind for 45 minutes amid his efforts.
He told BBC, “I had to re-strategise and reduce my wailing,” adding that he was determined to cry for one week as he planned despite the difficulties he encountered.
This constant trend to break records became rampant among Nigerians after a chef, Hilda Baci, in May officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.
