• Angel felt she couldn’t get along with her granny as a result of the woman’s strict nature and lack of emotional intelligence.
Ex-Big Brother Naija season 6 Shine Ya Eye star and ex-housemate, Angel Agnes Smith opens up on how life was with her, growing up with her grandmother.
According to the reality TV star, she lived most of the time with her maternal grandmother while growing up, and as a result of how strict the woman was to her, Angel didn’t get along with her.
Angel stated how her granny, on several occasions wouldn’t care how emotionally downcast she was, dealing with so many unhealthy rollercoaster of mixed feelings.
The reality star revealed this during a recent podcast session with Nigerian media personality, Temisan Emmanuel, aka Tay, on Tea With Tay.
Angel said, “I feel like I’m not the conservative Nigerian. The average Nigerian is pretty conservative, especially the women. But I’m not a conservative person, my personality clashes with the Nigerian culture.
“And my personality used for clash a lot with my granny who is a very strict Christian. So, we would clash often. And I was the Chapel prefect in my high school from year eight.”
The interviewer, Tay complemented Angel telling her that she’s a good girl and she replied, “Yeah, in some sense, yes. I would like to think I am, but in terms of expressions, not so much”.
Tay comes again asking Angel, ‘So, your granny didn’t really understand you?’ She said, “She didn’t really understand me. She didn’t really understand when I was struggling, just like I said, I didn’t really grow up with my parents, and they didn’t realize how much that affected me growing up as a child and I’m always with my granny.
“So, I would say I started experiencing my mental health issues when I was little, like when I was 12 or something. And I was already writing by then.”
