• Expressing her disappointment, Sophia disclosed that she cried when after she gave birth to her child Imade had to leave the child to be addressed by her dad’s surname, Adeleke.
Sophia Momodu, the first baby mama to Nigerian music star and singer Davido Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido has recounted the unfortunate situation where her daughter Imade was made to answer the dad’s surname.
It’s widely believed that when a women gives birth to a child, whether in or out of wedlock, it’s somewhat customary that the child bears his or her dad’s last or surname.
Nevertheless, that was not Sophia’s believe when she birthed Davido’s first child. And according to what she recently posted on her Instagram story, she remembered her mom and aunties laughing at her when she was crying because her daughter Imade’s last name wasn’t going to be Momodu.
She expressed that she was genuinely distraught and so shocked that after carrying a child for 9 months (out of wedlock), the child comes out to answer the dad’s last name.
Sophia further stressed that she argued the situation until it’s time for her to get back to her senses, even though it pained her really badly.
She wrote; “I remember my mom & aunties laughing at me when I was crying because my daughter’s last name wasn’t going to be Momodu. I was genuinely distraught.
“I was even arguing & everything, that they put her fathers full names & not a single letter from mine. Pulled out my feminist card & everything.. Z! E pain me gan that year sha awww.”

However, Sophia made it a public discussion where she put out on her Instagram story asking her fellow ladies to share their opinions on it.
And as we gathered, all of the people who responded to her were sharing their views based on the experiences they had and how the situation is being handled in their respective countries aside Nigeria.
Below are some of the reactions from Sophia’s followers.
