The Queens rapper shocked her fans in September when she announced her retirement from hip-hop music before going back to the tweet comments just hours later.
Since then, multiple pre-recorded Nicki Minaj features have dropped without the rapper saying much about them.
Just recently in an interview with The Shade Room, she gave a vivid explanation on her intentions behind the announcement and hinted more on what’s next for her career.
In her words;
“When I posted that retirement tweet I knew I still had music that I had already recorded that was still gonna come out. So the retirement was talking about my album,” she said.
“Meaning like do I wanna go back and record my fifth album? That’s what I was talking about. I always get asked to do features and I like features. So it was really about the fifth album.”
In a further and deeper discussion on that, Nicki said she didn’t expect her tweet to have such a mind blowing reaction without stating that she will release more music, so she discarded it.
In her words:
“Where do I stand with it now? Is that I didn’t know my fans were gonna act like that with the tweet and it hurt my feelings because I felt like the way I did it was maybe insensitive to my fans,” she said. “I didn’t know it was gonna be that big of a deal. So that’s why I deleted it.”
Trinidad and Tobago native also stated that she still has plans to collaborate with DaBaby (whom she recently linked up with on “iPhone”) and Gunna, saying that both artists could appear on a fifth album if one eventually comes together.
Recall Nicki’s last album, Queen, dropped in August 2018. However, before her retirement tweet, she had interview with Elle and she expressed excitement about putting out new stuff.
In her words:
“It’s probably the most excited I’ve been about an album release in a really long time. I’m happy that we’re not making my fans wait for another album, like I’ve done in the past,” she said. “This one incorporates all the things people love about Nicki, but it also just has a way bigger sound.”
