Nigerian blockbuster movie, Lion Heart directed by award winning Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji has made it to the Oscars.
The 2018 movie which was produced by cofounder of The Entertainment Network (TEN), Chinny Onwugbenu has been chosen by The Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee to represent Nigeria on the 2020 Academy Awards.
The Imo State born actress announced this via her social media platforms, Instagram and Twitter on Wednesday, October 2 that the movie will feature on Best International Film category.
Genevieve’s post reads:
“The Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee has chosen #LionHeartthemovie to represent Nigeria for the 2020 Academy Award for Best International Film! We are grateful for this recognition and proud to carry the torch. Thank you all for the love and support thus far.”
Meanwhile, Lion Heart the movie is directorial debut of the Nollywood screen diva, as well as acting debut for the music star, Peter Okoye popularly known as Mr P, of defunct Psquare.
The movie first premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and was released worldwide on Netflix in January 4, 2019.
The movie featured top Nollywood stars Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu, Kanayo O. Kanayo, plus guests appearance from Nigerian rapper, Phyno, DJ Xtacee among others.
