Edo State will pay ₦914m to Tony Adun. Many know him as Kabaka in Edo politics. His hotel went down on 5 February 2020. Officials said it sat on government land then.

The site was T. Latifah Hotel and Suites. It sits on the Ugbor axis of GRA, Benin. Kabaka went to court to fight the loss. A judge then ruled in his favour later on.
Commissioner confirms payment after EXCO meeting
Commissioner Paul Ohonbamu briefed newsmen in Benin today. He said the State Executive Council approved the payment. The award flows from the court’s clear judgment. He stressed that this government will obey the law.
“Oh yes, court orders must be obeyed,” he said. “EXCO has approved the full sum set by the court.” He added that the move shows a firm, fair leader. It shows a “thoughtful, law-abiding” governor, he noted.
He also spoke on faith in the justice system. “Justice must be rooted in confidence,” he said. The approval then closes a key part of the case. Payment will follow the state’s due process rules.
Across Nigeria, police start tinted glass permit enforcement this month. Officials say road checks will grow in big cities.
Kabaka says governor will rebuild the hotel
Kabaka had shared a fresh claim in June 2025. He spoke in a viral clip on Edo Videos’ page. He said the governor vowed to rebuild the hotel. The chat came during Democracy Day at Government House.
He thanked the governor and Dennis Idahosa by name. “You will rebuild my hotel,” he told the crowd. “May God bless you all,” he added with joy. He asked fans to join him to celebrate the news.
Supporters hailed the pledge across local social feeds. Many also pressed for a quick rebuild plan. Some asked for clear dates on funds and works. Others urged calm while steps move through files.
Visa debates also drew heat in recent days. See our US visa bans warning for wider rule trends.
Today’s move marks a turn in a long row. The state aligns with a court’s clear words. Kabaka now awaits the cash and the rebuild. Edo watchers will track the next field steps.
