Story Highlights
Anthony Joshua released an emotional video statement on Thursday, January 29, addressing the deaths of his close friends Latz and Sina. The former heavyweight champion described the pair as “major players” in his life and revealed that their ambitious plans for 2025 were tragically cut short by the fatal accident in Nigeria.

Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time since the devastating car accident that claimed the lives of his close friends, Latz and Sina on 29 December, 2025.
The British-Nigerian boxer appeared solemn in a video message released to his followers on Thursday. He addressed the “tragic, traumatic time” that has engulfed his circle since the incident in Nigeria. Joshua admitted he would prefer to speak to fans live, but current realities forced him to use a recorded message to reach his supporters worldwide.
Plans flipped upside down
Joshua revealed that the group had been on a “mission” to finalize plans for 2025 before the tragedy struck. He recalled their last gathering in Miami, where they mapped out the year ahead with high energy and optimism.
Those plans evaporated the moment they returned home to visit their families. Joshua reflected on the fragility of life, noting that while they planned to the best of their abilities, the crash was an “unforeseen circumstance” that was completely out of their control. The emotional weight of the incident is compounded by reports that Anthony Joshua swapped seats moments before fatal crash, a split-second decision that spared his life.
”God is the best planner,” Joshua said, fighting back emotion. “We can plan to the best of our capabilities, but that was such an unforeseen circumstance that was out of all of our controls.”
A spiritual bond
The boxing star made it clear that Latz and Sina were far more than just friends. He described them as brothers, business partners, and housemates who offered him constant protection and guidance.
Joshua expressed a deep determination to keep their legacies alive. He told fans that he finds comfort in prayer, believing that the duo will continue to aid him spiritually even though they are no longer physically present.
While the boxer focuses on healing, authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident. Reports confirmed weeks ago that Anthony Joshua’s driver freed from hospital as police weigh reckless driving charges, adding a complex legal layer to the mourning period.
Gratitude to leaders and medics
Joshua used the opportunity to thank the medical teams and high-profile figures who supported the families during the crisis.
He specifically acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Ogunyankin and Dr. Ninalowo at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi. The boxer also extended his gratitude to Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and business moguls Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote for their support.
”Your efforts, kindness, and support will never be forgotten,” Joshua concluded.
