Key Points:
- Soulja Boy was held in LA after a gun was found in a car.
- The DA later dropped the charge due to weak proof.
- His lawyer says he should never have been jailed.
Soulja Boy is now a free man again. He was let go two days after LA cops picked him up.

The rapper, real name DeAndre Way, was in a car in West Hollywood. Police pulled it over in the early hours of Sunday, August 3.
They said they saw a gun inside. He was taken in for being a felon with a weapon.
Cops found gun, but proof was weak
At the time, Soulja Boy was just a rider in the car, not the one driving. His past record includes past jail time for weapons.
But by Tuesday afternoon, August 5, LA jail staff let him out. The DA said there was not enough proof to charge him.
In a note to Billboard, the LA County DA’s team said, “A case was declined due to insufficient evidence.”
That means the law could not link the gun to Soulja Boy for sure.
His lawyer says arrest was not fair
Soon after his release, Soulja Boy posted on his IG story. It simply read, “First day out” with a black screen.
His lawyer, Rickey Ivie, told Billboard that the case had no real leg to stand on. He said, “The DA dismissed the charges because the evidence was insufficient to establish that the gun was in Soulja Boy’s possession, custody or control.”
He added, “Based upon the reported evidence, it appears that he should have never been arrested.”
Past jail time, and fresh court battles
This is not his first brush with jail. In 2014, Soulja Boy got a gun charge. He was put on probation but later broke the rules. That led to 240 days in jail in 2019.
Since then, the “Crank That” star has also been sued for abuse. Two courts have ruled against him already.
He now owes over $4 million in verdicts. One suit came from his ex, Kayla Myers. Another came from a woman who once worked for him.
There’s still a third case waiting. That one was filed by a past lover who says he hit her while she was pregnant with his child.
