American singer Jordan Adetunji has revealed the real reason he still uses his surname as his stage name.

In a recent chat on The Dotty Show, the “Kehlani” crooner said his last name is a way to honour his Nigerian roots.
Why he refused to change it
Jordan shared that when he first started his music career, many people told him to drop his surname. They claimed it did not sound like a name fit for a star.
However, he ignored the advice and decided to keep it. He stressed that his name holds deep meaning for him and connects him to his heritage.
“I keep the name [my surname] for a reason,” he said. “I remember when I first came into the game everyone was telling me you need to change your surname, that it doesn’t sound like an artist’s name. And I was like, why can Justin Bieber keep his? I’m a big fan of Justin Bieber.”
Proud of his Nigerian heritage
The singer explained that he will never hide where he comes from. He said his pride in being Nigerian is one of the main reasons he refused to change his name.
“I am proud to be Nigeria, why am I gonna hide it? You’ve got to learn how to pronounce it,” he added.
Jordan’s bold stance sends a strong message to fans and upcoming artistes. He believes in staying true to one’s identity, no matter the industry pressure.
Fans have since praised him for holding on to his roots. Many also noted that his choice adds to his unique brand in the music world.
