Popular Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters has opened up about his bond with his father, Afro-Juju legend Shina Peters. He said he forgave his dad even before they spoke about their issues.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Clarence shared that the change came when he saw he had made the same mistakes as his father. He said the realisation hit him in 2014 or 2015 and changed his life.
Forgave before the talk
Clarence, 41, said his own errors were not as bad because of tech and time. “I made every single mistake my father made. I’m just lucky that time and tech saved me from it being as catastrophic as his own,” he said.
He added that he forgave his dad right at that moment. “The moment I realised that I forgave him instantly. That would be 2014/15. That was when I became an adult. That was when I began my journey into adulthood. I’m still on the journey. You’re always on the journey,” he explained.
Family story and lessons
Clarence is the son of music icon Shina Peters and veteran Nollywood star Clarion Chukwura. He has shared parts of his family story in past talks. In one chat, he said his mother once wanted to abort him. She later changed her mind because she felt he was the rebirth of her late dad, who died when she was 11.
In February 2025, Clarence told Chude he could have judged his dad for how he treated his mum but chose not to. He also said he tried not to be like his dad with women. “But I’m not perfect,” he added.
Clarence’s story shows a path of growth and grace. His words show how seeing the past can help one build a better way forward.
