Police in Akwa Ibom have raided a shrine linked to a gang of criminals.
The group was wanted for rape, armed theft and cult-like acts.

The raid took place late at night on July 30, 2025.
It followed a report filed by a man robbed and whose guest was raped.
Shrine filled with disturbing finds
Officers moved fast after the order came from Police Chief CP Baba Mohammed Azare.
They stormed the spot at 11:10 p.m. and caught the gang hiding inside.
The hideout looked like a shrine.
Inside, cops found two coffins stuffed with women’s pads, people’s photos and strange items.
The gang members nabbed are Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny and Joseph Joseph.
They’re being held and questioned as the probe goes on.
Police vow to find more suspects
DSP Timfon John, the police rep, spoke on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
She said the group will face full justice and more arrests will come.
She noted that the raid came after weeks of deep undercover work.
Her words:
“Acting on a firm directive from CP Azare, operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items.”
The cops are still on the hunt for other gang members.
They also promised the public that safety remains their top goal.
