Mr P Defends His Talent, Reveals True Cause of P-Square Split
Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, famously known as Mr P, has boldly claimed that he is the only certified musician in his family. This revelation came during his performance at the recent AY Live show.

While addressing fans, Mr P spoke openly about his long-standing battle with critics who often called him “talentless.” He strongly denied those claims, saying their unfair comparison between him and his twin brother Paul Okoye — who made up the now-defunct duo P-Square — played a key role in the group’s breakup.
He said, “I have sang and danced but they told you I am talentless. I will prove myself today.”
“They Lied To You”: Mr P Shares His Truth
According to Peter, fans who constantly praised Paul as the “more talented one” caused tension between them. He explained that the hype got into Paul’s head and led him to start acting out.
In his words, “The reason P-Square split was because two brothers were doing their thing and some fans started saying one was more talented than the other. It got into his head and he started misbehaving.”
He added that many people believed lies about his talent because they didn’t know the full story. “They lied to you. In the whole of Okoye’s family, I’m the only one with music certificate. I read music,” he shared.
Mr P Proves His Talent On Stage
To back up his claims, Mr P gave a full performance at the event. He sang, danced, and played both the piano and guitar, leaving the crowd impressed.
He asked, “I have sang, danced and played the piano and the guitar, is it easy?”
The singer used the moment to remind fans that talent is not just about what people see on stage, but also what is studied and practiced behind the scenes.
His comments have since sparked fresh reactions online, especially among longtime P-Square fans still hoping for a reunion. However, Mr P’s message was clear — he wants his own efforts and skills to be respected.
