Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been re-arraigned over alleged cyberbullying of Nigerian celebrities. The police accuse him of targeting actresses Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo, as well as music producer Samklef.
The Federal High Court in Abuja brought fresh charges against VDM on Thursday. Justice Musa Liman presided over the case, with the activist facing a five-count charge. He pleaded not guilty.
Court Allows Previous Bail Terms
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, urged the court to let his client continue on the bail earlier granted by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon. The prosecution, represented by counsel to the Inspector-General of Police, Victor Okoye, did not object.

Justice Liman upheld the previous bail conditions and adjourned the trial until July 24. Under the bail granted on June 10, 2024, VDM was required to provide N10 million and two sureties who are either employees of reputable firms or Level 17 officers in the federal civil service. The sureties must also show evidence of three years of tax clearance.
Background of the Case
VDM was first arraigned on May 22, 2024, before Justice Olajuwon, on similar charges under Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015. The law punishes online harassment and cyberbullying.
His case has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters and critics weighing in on his outspoken nature and online conduct. As the trial date approaches, attention remains on how the proceedings will unfold.
