Singer’s Remarks Stir Controversy
Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, popularly known as Portable, is a street pop singer who has gained a significant following. Recently, he has found himself in hot water with his fans due to a controversial post that has been circulating online.
Portable made a video where he claimed no protests were happening in Sango, Ogun State, where he resides.
He explained that in the past, even when they protested, the government ignored them. As a result, people in his community decided to focus on their individual livelihoods instead.
Portable’s remarks quickly drew criticism from his fans, who felt disappointed by his indifference to their struggles. The video sparked outrage, leading many of his followers to take action against him.
Mass Unfollowing Unfolds
In less than 12 hours after the video was posted, Portable reportedly lost a hundred followers. The backlash didn’t end there; more fans promised to unfollow him, expressing their dissatisfaction with his comments.
Some fans had vowed to unfollow him immediately after seeing the video that portrayed Sango as peaceful despite its ongoing challenges. Portable’s followers lived up to their threats and began unfollowing him en masse.
One fan, @wisdomjoe_, said, “I unfollowed him yesterday. I hate nonsense, and I don’t support wrong things, especially in times like this.” Another fan, @lyonn_ade, commented, “Unfollowed as well! Good riddance to bad rubbish!!”
A third fan, @mr.belefu, added, “What’s wrong with Nigerians sef? Let’s bring down this rebranded agbero’s page! Let’s tell him that we Nigerians made him.”
Comparing Himself to Dangote
This backlash follows another controversial video where Portable compared himself to Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man.
In that video, he stated that protests were for the poor, implying that affluent individuals like himself had no need to engage in such actions.
This comparison only fueled the anger of his fans, who saw it as a sign of arrogance and insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
Portable’s recent actions and comments have clearly not sat well with many of his fans. As the fallout continues, it remains to be seen how the singer will address these concerns and if he can mend his relationship with his followers.
