Bobrisky’s Advice to Nigerians
Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has cautioned people against abusing the naira, the country’s currency.
He emphasized that such actions could lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment. Bobrisky shared this wisdom shortly after being released from prison on Monday, where he had been serving a sentence for naira mutilation.
In an exclusive interview with GoldMyneTV, Bobrisky stressed the importance of adhering to the law. “Don’t spray money, unless you’ll be a landlord inside Kirikiri,” he advised.
Bobrisky aimed to highlight how even seemingly minor offences could result in harsh penalties. “It’s not just about killing or any criminal activity, something light like this can take you there,” he warned.
Reflecting on his time in prison, Bobrisky expressed gratitude to his friends who supported him throughout the ordeal. “I’m only focusing on my friends who were there for me, and I’m grateful. I’m not thinking about any other person,” he remarked, emphasizing the vital role of a supportive community during tough times.
Legal Issues Leading to Bobrisky’s Imprisonment
Bobrisky’s remarks come on the heels of his own legal battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC had charged him with four counts of naira abuse, which led to his conviction.
On April 5th, the Federal High Court in Lagos, under Justice A.O. Awogboro, found Bobrisky guilty of mutilating naira notes, sentencing him to six months in prison.
The court’s decision underscored the seriousness with which Nigerian authorities view the defacement and mutilation of the national currency. Mutilating naira notes is seen not just as a petty crime but as an affront to national pride and economic stability.
After serving his sentence, Bobrisky was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Facility on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Upon his release, videos surfaced showing him and his friends celebrating, vibing to popular songs by Nigerian artists Mohbad and Chike. In one of the videos, his friends exclaimed, “We are out of prison. Congratulations Bobrisky,” marking a joyful reunion and a moment of relief after the trying period.
Bobrisky’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for Nigerians about the importance of respecting the law.
His advice and personal story highlight the potentially grave consequences of seemingly minor offences, reminding everyone of the need to act responsibly, especially in matters as symbolic and significant as the national currency.
