During a recent interactive session with his fans on Instagram, Asake disclosed that the collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist and Grammy-winner Wizkid happened unexpectedly.
“To be honest, I didn’t initially plan to have Wizkid on that song. I had someone else in mind for that track,” Asake explained. The turn of events came when P. Prime, the producer, played the demo for Wizkid.
Captivated by the song, Wizkid expressed his desire to be part of it. “Wizkid heard it and said, ‘I f*ck with this song, I want to jump on it’,” Asake revealed. This unexpected twist led to the creation of what has now become a massive hit.
Record-Breaking Success
‘MMS’ was released on Friday as part of Asake’s third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy’. The song quickly gained traction and set a new benchmark on Spotify Nigeria, becoming the track with the most first-day streams, amassing an impressive 870,000 streams.
The previous record was held by Wizkid’s song ‘IDK’ featuring Zlatan Ibile, which had 626,000 streams.
Moreover, Asake’s album ‘Lungu Boy’ also shattered records, achieving the highest first-day streams for an African album on Spotify.
