Former Big Brother Naija contestant and comedian Deeone has recently been at the center of a social media storm after he aired his views on the iconic actress, Genevieve Nnaji. Deeone’s comments about Genevieve’s age and appearance quickly gained traction online and sparked widespread debate.
The comedian’s assertion that people should refrain from showering Genevieve with unnecessary praise regarding her youth when she shares content on social media drew significant attention. Deeone argued that it is redundant to continually emphasize Genevieve’s ageless appearance, asserting that it is clear she is not young. This perspective immediately ignited discussions on societal beauty standards and ageism in the entertainment industry.
How to know if a woman is old or young
Deeone’s suggestion that there are more accurate indicators of a person’s age, such as the condition of their hands or the skin on their legs, further fueled the controversy. By challenging Genevieve to showcase her hands or the top of her legs in a picture or video, Deeone intensified the ongoing conversation and elicited diverse reactions from the public and industry professionals alike.
Subsequently, the comedian’s advice to Genevieve to not rely on flattering messages from her supporters and to embrace her age by pursuing elderly roles in movies added another layer to the discourse. This commentary sparked discussions about the representation of older women in the media and the entertainment industry’s expectations for actresses as they age.
Deeone’s comments about Genevieve Nnaji have continued to dominate conversations online, with supporters and critics expressing their contrasting viewpoints. As the discussion unfolds, it has evolved into a broader dialogue about societal perceptions of ageing and the portrayal of women in the entertainment industry, making it a thought-provoking and significant topic.
Deeone’s statement
“Anytime Genevieve’s picture or video comes out, people will always say, ‘Oh my God she looks too young, she looks beautiful’, just forget that thing. If you want to know whether a woman is old, it’s not by picture or make-up or by video. If you want to know whether a woman is young or old, look through the back of her hands and legs.
“If Genevieve is willing, let her show us the back of her hands and legs. Packaging has made Genevieve post those pictures that make her look young. Madam, don’t be deceived, Nigerians are deceitful, you look your age. And there’s nothing wrong with it.
“For instance, look at me, I already have grey hairs. There’s nothing wrong, embrace it. This is 2024, embrace yourself. Don’t come out and feel you’re young, you’re not.
“You can’t compete with these young people. Genevieve stop making it seem like you’re young, you’re not. Do you know how long ago you started acting? Accept elderly roles in movies. You’re supposed to be acting in the Grandmother role in movies. You look old. Where would you not embrace it.”
