In the latest controversy surrounding singer Asake, apparently, his music video for ‘Only Me’ has been causing quite a stir due to its seemingly blasphemous content. People are outraged and calling for the video to be taken down.
Asake, a popular Nigerian music artist, is facing severe criticism for his latest music video, “Only Me.” The music video has been accused of blasphemy against the Christian community, primarily as it portrays Asake wearing a sacred robe that is typically reserved for Christian clergy, specifically Catholic priests.
On social media, users have expressed their outrage at the video, deeming it disrespectful and offensive to Christians. Many have even gone to the extent of advising fellow Christians to avoid listening to the song.
Solomon Buchi, a social media influencer, took to his Twitter page to condemn Asake’s actions, stating that the singer keeps disrespecting Christianity in his music videos. Buchi also questioned why Asake, a Muslim, would go to such lengths to insult Christianity. He criticized the Bandana video, where Asake had depicted black goats trooping into the church with cloven tongues of fire above weird men.4ttt
Buchi wrote; “Asake keeps disrespecting the Christian faith in his music videos. Dramatizing giving the Eucharist, robed up in priestly regalia for a music video that has no connection with Christianity is disrespectful.
“In his Bandana video, he depicts black goats troping into the church, with cloven tongues of fire above weird men. Asake, I think, is a Muslim. Why doesn’t he go above and beyond to embarrass his Muslim faith in this same way?
“Why do Christians even listen to these musicians who bluntly disrespect Christianity?”
Another social media user, Daniel Regha, also criticized the music video, calling out Asake and the video director for their lack of creativity. He said that the portrayal of the Holy Communion scenes and the inverted cross was insensitive and blasphemous. Regha pointed out that the song had no religious theme, and Asake’s actions were intentional and insulting to Christianity.
Regha’s reaction reads; “Asake’s “Only Me” music video is blasphemous; The song was neither a religious song, nor does it have any line or theme that acknowledges the Roman Catholic Church, but TG Omori decided to !nsult Christianity by m¤cking the Christian religion.
“Asides the Holy communion scenes, Asake was seen doing the inverted cross which is a symbol often used to declare an oppositi¤n to Christianity & m¤cking the sacrifice of Christ. That’s n¤t creativity, it’s insensitiv!ty at it’s peak, & was very intentional.”
Asake’s music video has sparked outrage among Christians, who feel that their faith has been disrespected. Social media users have called on Asake to issue an apology, and some even demand that he withdraw the music video. The incident has brought up questions about religious sensitivity in the entertainment industry and how far artists should go in their creative expression without offending or insulting any religious group.
