More Nigerian superstars Olamide, Asake, and Ayra Starr have also made it to the Grammy nominees list. The three singers got one nomination each for themselves.
Asake for Best African Music Performance – Amapiano, Ayra Starr for Best African Music Performance – Rush, Olamide for Best African Music Performance – Amapiano.
However, Rema whose relevance became more apparent this year, thanks to his hit song ‘Calm Down’, didn’t make it on the nominees list.
Following the nominees list that was released today, Friday, November 10, five Nigerian International stars made the list.
First, Burna Boy garnered the highest number of nominations, with four to his name. The ‘City Boys’ crooner became the first Nigerian artist to be nominated in the major category at the Grammy Awards.
Burna’s nominations include, “Sittin On Top Of The World” for Best Melodic Rap Performance, “I Told Them…” for Best Global Music Album, “Alone” for Best Global Music Performance, “City Boys” for Best African Music Performance.
Followed by Davido, the Afropop singer earned 3 whopping nominations for Best Global Music Performance nomination, Best African Performance, and Best Global Album.
Still on Davido’s first-ever nominations, “FEEL” for Best Global Music Performance, “UNAVAILABLE” for Best African Performance, and Timeless’ for Best Global Album.
