• South African version of Big Brother, famously known as Big Brother Mzansi is set to be back on TV.
Popular South African television network, Mzansi Magic, owned by MultiChoice, has announced a major comeback of its reality television show, Big Brother Mzansi.
The show returns after a seven-year break, the last it was aired in South Africa, 2015.
Reports reaching Validupdates states that casting and selection of candidates have begun for the show themed, ‘Big Brother Mzansi’.
The reality television show is produced by Randburg-based Red Pepper Pictures, same producers of the Nigerian version of the show, Big Brother Naija.
M-Net’s Executive Head of Programming, Nomsa Philiso, has confirmed the forthcoming show. Nomsa said in a statement, “This year marks 20 years since the very first Big Brother on MultiChoice’s M-Net and we are excited to celebrate this milestone by commissioning a new Big Brother season, which will be housed under our Mzansi Magic stable.”
“This is a show that has always delivered top ratings and entertainment value, and our viewer and advertising partners can look forward to a stellar season of Big Brother.”
It would be recalled that the last edition of the show was aired in 2015, with Nkanyiso Khumalo (Ace) and Ntombifuthi Tshabalala (Ntombi), emerging as winners.
The show which was hosted in South Africa, saw contestants from twelve (12) African countries, including Nigeria.
It also saw the unimaginable rise to fame of a number of celebrated entertainers and media personalities across the continent.
