United face Rooney’s Derby in the FA Cup fifth-round tie on Thursday

Manchester United’s  all-time best goalscorer Wayne Rooney is still a huge fan of the Red Devils but will make his best to stop them from progressing to the FA Cup quarter-finals

The Englishman’s Derby County will host United in the fifth round of the competition on Thursday. Previewing the encounter on RamsTV, the 34-year-old said: “I love the club
“It’s a team I want to do well, I want to win but for this 90 minutes, 120 minutes I want them to lose to try and go through.”

The Red Devils beat Wolves and Tranmere Rovers on their way to the fifth round. The Rams, in turn, eliminated Crystal Palace and Northampton Town

The Red Devils legend, who scored 253 goals during his 13-year spell at Old Trafford, joined the Championship side in a player-coach role in January. He’s netted four and set up two goals in all competitions since then

“I’ve come here as a Manchester United player in the FA Cup and I know what it means to the fans, the players, the staff to have Manchester United come in,” Rooney concluded. “It’s a big day for a football club, and a big challenge
