The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Oladimeji Olusegun Ogunfolaju, the owner of Lakers Hotel and Lake County Entertainment, Ikorodu Lagos State with 79 others for alleged involvement in internet fraud.
Valid Updates gathered from Ogunfolaju’s statement that he built the hotel, which houses a nightclub and a strip bar in 2017 to serve as a “haven” to internet fraudsters, and was heavily guided by armed security men, from three security agencies, Nigerian army, Police and Navy.
The acting Spokesman to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tony Orilade disclosed in a statement that “The suspects were arrested during a sting operation on the hotel located at 29, Ebute-Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, following an intensive surveillance and intelligence gathering by the Commission about their alleged internet criminal activities”.
According to EFCC, about 60 of the suspects have volunteered useful information, leading to further investigation”.
Items recovered in the course of the arrest were exotic cars, jewellery, mobile phones and some documents.
Lagos State EFCC Zonal Head, Mr Mohammed Rabo, added that the suspects will soon be charged to court at the completion of the investigation.
