Nigeria Ministry of Health under the leadership of Dr Osagie Ehanire has confirmed second case of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
In a social media post made by the Health Minister, he noted that today, March 9, 2020, a new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the West African country.
“Today, March 9th, I announced 1 (one) more case of #COVID19 in #Nigeria. To date, there are 2 (two) confirmed cases”, he tweeted.
According to him, the new case is an Ogun State contact with one of the 40 isolated persons being monitored.
“The new case is an Ogun State contact of the index case, one of 40 persons in isolation being closely monitored. He is clinically stable. #COVID19Nigeria”, he wrote.
He however stated further that the new case visited Lagos in February and given the timelines between the visit and illness, it’s unlikely he was infected in Nigeria.
“On the case reported in the US of Nigerian origin, we are in touch with colleagues at the @CDCGov and @USCDCNIGERIA here in Abuja. The case visited Lagos in February 2020, however, given the timelines between the visit and illness, it is unlikely he was infected in #Nigeria.”
